Phil Jacobs started his career in golf course construction some twenty six years ago.

He has a background in Land Surveying which stood him in good stead when it came to setting out levels and grades for golf courses. After being involved in the construction of two golf courses, Phil then ventured into golf course maintenance and maintained a championship standard golf course for a period of 18 months. Having been a keen golfer since the age of ten, he became fascinated with the design process of a golf course once he had been exposed to the construction and maintenance of golf courses. This led to him becoming one of the founding partners in Gary Player Design, based in Johannesburg and serving all markets from this base, with the exception of the Americas.

From 1987 – 2003 he was the senior Designer for Gary Player on more than 40 golf courses in many different countries, including Japan, China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, South Africa, France, Belgium, Poland and Egypt. On these projects he was responsible for the routing of the golf courses, the production of the working drawings and technical specifications, general supervision of the construction process and co-ordinating Gary Player’s input and visits to site.

During the last four years projects have been taken on in Australia, China, Singapore, Egypt, Swaziland and South Africa.

Phil Jacobs was born in Johannesburg in 1954

Towards end of 2003 he started working under the Phil Jacobs Design banner.
